01-Jul-2005 Deep positioning system commissioning - INFN - Italy In November 2004, the Italian Institute For Nuclear Physics, INFN had ordered to ACSA an underwater positioning system for their Deepwater Neutrino telescope. In July 2005, the Factory Acceptance Tests of the equipment have been successfully driven. At-sea validation will occur this fall 2005.
The positioning system composed of seabed beacons and acoustic digital receivers mounted inside the glass spheres. It will offer a submetric accuracy. For this application, ACSA is introducing a new powerful patented technology known as Time Spectral Spread Codes, "TSSC". The small size of the equipment developed by ACSA open the path to new commercial and military applications, where numerous underwater vehicles are encountered.
