01-Jul-2005 Severe conditions and success for first GIB-Lite & H160 survey On July 21st, in the Etang de Thau (South of France) LIRMM H-160 AUV was surveying (CTD) an at-sea fresh water source. The accuracy of the GIB-Lite system tracking in real time allowed vehicle supervision and a fast recovery. This survey has been an opportunity to validate the GIB-Lite accuracy in severe underwater acoustic propagation conditions: H-160 was navigating in a 3 meters water depth, the water column was split into a fresh layer and a salty layer near the bottom.
The coupling of GIB-Lite tracking & H-160 AUV makes a very efficient, accurate and low cost survey system for shallow water.
