09-Mar-2006 A break through in UW Mine-hunting For the very first time, an underwater MCM weapon succeeded a direct hit at a range above 1000 m from launching platform. On March 9th, 2006, south of Toulon, ACSA's GIBTM portable tracking, guidance and supervision system has been deployed from French MCM ship, CMT-ORION. The GIBTM system was used to guide Kster, ECA's expandable mine destruction vehicle, toward a target located 1000 m away from the CMT.
Due to GIBTM system accuracy, it took less that 10 minutes for the EMDV to reach the target in rough sea conditions (Winds blowing above 30 knots). This success open the path to MCM operation conducted from non dedicated ships.
